Dean Beattie
With a journey that is rooted in stage tango, starting in London, 2013. I have embarked on an incredible journey through the realms of tango that has taken me across continents. Migrating to Australia in 2015. I embarked on a new chapter, where I discovered the essence of Tango Pista, the dance of the social floor. My tango voyage evolved when I discovered this raw and heartfelt tango, in the vibrant tango community of Sydney. The profound connection & expression that this dance form offers charmed my soul. I decided to deepen my tango knowledge by immersing myself in the birthplace of this art form, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Over the span of three transformative trips to Argentina in 2017, 19, & 22, I committed myself to mastering both tango pista & stage tango. The opportunity to learn from the most talented maestros & milongueros has been invaluable.
Every step of the way I’ve been blessed with my wife & dance partner, Genevieve (Gigi). Gigi has been my rock in every moment of this exhilarating journey. Our collaboration has been a testament to the deep connection we share not only as dance partners but also as life partners. We have embraced the challenges & triumphs, crafting unforgettable moments on international tango floors. Our synchronicity, trust & shared love for tango have been the pillars of our success.
We had the honour of participating in 8 international tango competitions, where we've poured our hearts & soul into each performance.
Before tango, I have a rich background in gymnastics. In my youth, I competed, earning numerous gold medals. This early experience instilled in me the discipline, determination & artistry that I now bring to the world of tango. My journey in tango is not confined to the stage competition alone. I have had the privilege of participating in a wide range of events, festivals and performances at milongas, where I have had the opportunity to connect with fellow dancers and share the magic of tango.
Genevieve Silva (Gigi)
My first encounter with tango happened at the age of 8 during a family holiday in Argentina. I witnessed the mesmerising spectacle of tango in its birthplace. I was bewitched by the emotion, the connection and the sheer intensity of the dance. In that instant, it felt like I had a glimpse into the core of love and that memory has stayed with me ever since.
My journey into the world of dance, began long before I discovered tango. I've embraced various dance forms throughout my life, from the elegance of ballet, to the vivacity of jazz & the sensuality of belly dancing. These diverse influences have shaped the way I express myself on the dance floor, infusing my movements with a unique blend of grace, precision & passion.
Beyond my life as a dancer, I’m also a skilled photographer. Through the lens of my camera, I have the privilege of capturing the beauty & emotion of tango, both on and off the dance floor. It's a way for me to express my deep connection to this art form & share its enchanting stories with the world.
One of the most cherished aspects of my tango journey has been my partnership with Dean, my dance partner & life partner. Together, we've embarked on thrilling adventures to tango competitions around the globe.
